Press Release: the Erasmus+

From January 18 to 27, 2019, Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City was honored to host the first annual meeting of JEUL Project (Enterprise-University Links) under the Erasmus+ Programme:  "Improve the capacity of educational institutions through cooperation programs with businesses".

The highly competitive labor market has put pressure on students since the knowledge and expertise of these have not met increasing requirements from employers as well as from the works themselves, resulting in a high rate of unemployed post-graduate students. Consequently, students tend to be more interested in new-way training programs which are innovative, highly practical and associated with real business activities than old fashioned, purely theoretical ones. Hence, Vietnamese universities, to keep up with the trend, are forced to enhance education cooperation and teaching curriculum exchanges with privilege European ones.

As a result, the Enterprise-University Links (JEUL - Enterprise-University Links) project, a part of the program “Erasmus+”: Improving the capacity of educational institutions through cooperation programs with businesses, was scheduled from October 2017 to October 2020. The total value of the project is € 934,494, funded by the European Commission (EU) with 09 partners, including 05 European Universities, 02 Vietnamese Universities and 02 Chinese Universities. “The Erasmus+ Programme is designed to support Programme Countries' efforts to efficiently use the potential of Europe’s talent and social assets in a lifelong learning perspective, linking support to formal, non-formal and informal learning throughout the education, training and youth fields. The Programme also enhances the opportunities for cooperation and mobility with Partner Countries, notably in the fields of higher education and youth” (Erasmus+ Programme, 2018).

“JEUL will produce durable and sustained impact: After the end of the project, cooperation between EU and partner countries universities will continue albeit in a different form (other joint projects, bilateral agreements, possible joint degrees, etc.) as a result of the links developed during the life of this project” (JEUL, 2018).

As one of the members of the project, Banking University Ho Chi Minh City will implement the project through activities to strengthen practice-oriented teaching methodology. The practical approach of case studies and teaching methodology mostly focused on real life situations and problem solving is an element of innovation in the partner countries universities, where teaching methodology is often too theoretical oriented. Then, the cooperation both at regional level (Chinese and Vietnamese universities will cooperate actively together, trying to develop a model of university-industry which fits better for their national and regional settings) and at wider level (all the project activities will involve active participation both of European and partner countries universities) will be focused on. The gap between the academic world and industry in partner countries is still too large and the activities supported by JEUL project aims at reducing it, fostering cooperation at intra-regional (within the Asian region) and extra-regional (between Asia and Europe) level. (JEUL, 2018)

It is an honor for Bank University Ho Chi Minh City to hold the first annual Erasmus JEUL project scheduled from 18 to 27 January, 2019 at 36 Ton That Dam, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. Delegates and representatives of partners and universities will attend seminars on results from entrepreneurs’ surveys and students’ feedback (section 3.2 of JEUL project). In addition, experts from EU will come to Vietnam and China to support the implementation of VLE - Virtual Learning Environment platform (section 4.3 of JEUL project).

The project shows the righteous awareness of its partners and members in the effort to upgrade the quality of university education to be well-fitted with fast-changing labour market.
Hopefully, goals set by JEUL project will be successfully achieved, and the cooperation between partners and members will be more tightened, even after it is fulfilled.
